Understanding Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Not all individuals exhibit every symptom. There are three sub types of ADHD: Inattentive- characterized by inattention and difficulty focusing, Hyperactive/Impulsive- displaying hyperactivity and/or impulsivity, and Combined Type- showing elements of both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity.

Core symptoms are the same across age groups, but can manifest differently

Our Approach to ADHD Therapy

Our Therapists specialize in working with children, teens, and young adults with ADH, as well as adults. We utilize cognitive-behavioral  therapy (CBT) to address the unique challenges of ADHD effectively. We focus on fostering practical skills, strategies, and coping mechanisms to successfully manage symptoms. We also partner with parents to equip them with strategies for supporting their children with ADHD and navigating potential behavioral challenges.

We utilize play, art, and other fun activities to engage children with ADHD in the therapeutic process. Children learn practical tools and strategies to help them manage their symptoms and behaviors so they can thrive in daily life. We always involve parents in their child’s treatment as we recognize your important role in supporting your child to overcome challenges related to inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.  This partnership is instrumental in fostering academic, behavioral, and social progress for your child.   We will also collaborate closely with your child’s school, when needed,  to implement strategies promoting success at home or in school.

Therapy for teens with ADHD emphasizes developing executive functioning skills such as, organization, time management, and goal setting. Additionally, we address emotional regulation, social skills, and academic support to aid adolescents in navigating the complexities of adolescence while managing ADHD symptoms.

Treatment for adults with ADHD focuses on practical strategies for independent living, academic or vocational support, organizational skills, and career advancement. Attention is also given to self-esteem, relationship dynamics, and managing transitions throughout adulthood.
